Unique Accountancy Programme launched by CPA Ireland and DIT

Twin-track gives students a combined Level 9 Masters Degree & CPA Professional Accountancy Qualification

For the first time in Ireland, students wishing to pursue a career in accountancy will be able to study for a Level 9 Masters Degree and their Professional qualification at the same time. The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland) and the DIT College of Business have joined together and launched an MSc in Applied Accountancy which also provides students with full time jobs with approved employers while they are studying.

The new programme provides the fastest route for would-be accountants to obtain both a Master’s and professional qualification. Upon admission to the programme, students will go directly into a dynamic work placement. In the initial two years each trainee will participate in paid work placements four days per week, and undertake classes in DIT each Friday. The final year will see students work full time to obtain their professional CPA qualification, becoming one of the most sought after accountancy professionals in Ireland and one of the million plus CPAs across the world.

The programme is commencing its first intake of students in September 2017, and is aimed at ambitious graduates wishing to pursue a rewarding career in accountancy while gaining the skill set to work in practice, SME’s, financial technology or multinational companies to name but a few.

The new MSc in Applied Accountancy launched by DIT and CPA Ireland has been developed following extensive consultation with employers, students and academics. Employers identified the need for critical thinking and improved ‘soft skills’ such as communication and presentation skills in new entrants to the profession. With the inclusion of modules in ‘Communications and Professional Development’ and ‘Information Systems’ as well as providing both classroom based learning and work experience based learning, the programme has been designed specifically to equip students with the exact skills sought by employers.
