The International Federation of Training and Development Organisation (IFTDO) Recognises Abbott for Outstanding Employment Practises

Abbott announced that it has won the Overall Award for workplace management at the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO) Global Human Resource Development (HRD) Awards. Abbott was also the winner of the Performance Management category at the Awards.

Abbott is the first company in Ireland to win this prestigious annual Overall Award, which recognises companies who have achieved excellence in human resource management and development, by implementing programs that particularly enhance personal growth, human performance, productivity and sustainable development.  The company was honoured for its programmes at the Abbott Vascular facility in Clonmel.

"Talented and engaged employees are Abbott’s greatest asset, so we endeavour to provide employees with the tools, resources and education required to build new skills and maximise their performance.  We are thrilled to receive this award in recognition of our efforts to help our employees reach their full potential," said Margaret Morrissey, HR director, Abbott Ireland.

IFTDO is a diversified network of human resource management and development organisations representing more than 500,000 professionals in 50 countries. Abbott was previously awarded a Special Award of Merit in 2009.

Abbott’s vascular facility in Clonmel also recently won the overall Multinational Sector Award in recognition of outstanding training and development practices at the 12th annual Irish Institute of Training and Development National Training Awards 2010. The company was recognised for its strategic approach to learning and development, in particular the rigorous evaluation processes and demonstrated excellence in areas such as investment in training and diversity, and disability awareness.

Speaking at the awards, Sinead Heneghan, Director, Irish Institute of Training & Development said, “A key component was their demonstration both of the tangible returns achieved from their training and development programmes, and the key role these programmes play in helping them to adapt, change and compete in the current economy."

The IITD National Training Awards aim to recognise organisations which demonstrate best practice and an ongoing commitment to training and development.
