Client News > Release17-06-2010Sligo Schoolchildren join worldwide celebrations of Global Wind Day - Eco Wind Power and EnergiaGeevagh Windfarm Celebrating Global Wind Day 2010 Sligo yesterday joined in the worldwide celebrations of Global Wind Day (15th June 2010) with an open day event for local schools, members of the public and dignitaries at Geevagh Windfarm, sponsored by Eco Wind Power and Energia. The Geevagh Windfarm Open Day events included tours of the wind farms generators, hand painting of the turbines and presentations on the technology and impact of wind power. The event was attended by school children from a number of local schools including Ballyfarnon National School, Carraroe National School and Scoil Mhuire, Drumboylan National School. Aidan Sweeney, Chief Operating Officer, Eco Wind Power commented, “Wind power has become the most significant contributor to helping Ireland meet its renewable targets.” Tom Gillen, Chief Operating Officer, Viridian Power & Energy commented, “Energia has consistently been one of the largest investors in Ireland’s renewable sector and currently has 220MW of operational renewable electricity capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, the majority of which is operational, with a further 400MW of wind farm projects currently in development across Ireland.” |
