Client News > Release26-05-2010EA Games’ Decision a Vote of Confidence in the Western RegionToday’s announcement by EA Games to locate its new Customer Service and Operations Centre in Galway is a significant vote of confidence in Ireland, and particularly the Western Region, as a location for Foreign Direct Investment, the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland has said. In spite of difficult economic conditions, Ireland remains a location of choice for US multinationals looking to create and expand operations in Europe. Speaking on the announcement, Gerard P. Kilcommins, Chairman of the American Chamber West Region and Global VP Vascular Operations & Site GM Galway at Medtronic Galway, said; “the decision by EA Games is a testament to the educated and skilled workforce in Ireland’s western region. Galway offers a readily available pool of talent, global market access and vastly improved physical infrastructure. EA’s arrival will act as a boost to the local economy” Mr Kilcommins, who is also Vice President of the American Chamber, added “it is encouraging to see the continued development of the new media and gaming sector nationwide. In the past two years we have seen many new arrivals such as Facebook, Big Fish Games, LinkedIn and Blizzard Entertainment and the IDA should be congratulated on securing these important investments.” The US remains the biggest investor in Ireland with more than 600 companies nationwide directly employing close to 100,000 people, with around 13,000 of those direct jobs located in the Western Region. |
