Businesses Need to Identify How They Can Recover & Prosper - CPA President

'Perspectives on Recovery' - CPA Annual Conference

Irish small and medium enterprises are being urged by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland to take the steps now to identify how they can recover from the chaos of recession and position their businesses for prosperity.

"Our economic reality has gone through such a system of flux in the past three years that many of us are still reeling and just trying to adapt to the new economic world order" said Geoff Meagher, recently elected President of the CPA Institute.

"However, stabilising a business and trying to implement a framework for an uncertain future allows company directors and owner managers to refocus their strategic objectives. Now is an opportune time for small and medium businesses to explore new perspectives in terms of innovation, cost cutting measures, adapting new technologies and competition" said Meagher.

Mr. Meagher was announcing details of the CPA Annual National Conference 2010 which will take place on Friday 4th June in Carton House, Maynooth, Co Kildare. The theme of this year's conference is 'Perspectives on Recovery' and will address how businesses can identify what steps are required to move forward, recover and indeed thrive after the chaos of the worst recession in global history.

Leading innovators and business professionals will give their perspectives on recovery including Frank Daly, Chairman of NAMA, who will outline the objectives of NAMA and the progress made to date as it acquires significant volumes of loans from participating Financial Institutions.

In addition to explaining the rationale behind NAMA’s valuation of loans and discounts, he will also outline the way in which the agency will engage with its new clients and the rigorous assessment procedures that business plans will be subjected to.

Dr Constantin Gurdgiev, Economist with Trinity College will present on 'The Economist's View of the Future' and Ron Immick Co-Founder of Small Business Can will present on 'The Benefits of Entrepreneurship'.

Other speakers at the CPA Annual National Conference include: John Teeling, Founder and Chairman of Cooley Distillery, Simon Burke, CEO of Superquinn, Mark Fielding CSO of ISME and Ian McShane, Managing Director of Behaviour and Attitudes.
